William F. Allerton

Age 98, formerly of Penn Yan, passed away on February 9, 2025 at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday (Feb. 14) at 1:00 pm at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, 155 Main Street, Penn Yan. A reception will be held following the service at the Penn Yan United Methodist Memorial Building.

Bill was born on December 2, 1926 in Newark, New York, the son of Roger M. Allerton Sr. and Agnes (Huxley) Allerton. He is predeceased by his wife Jane Allerton, as well as his twin brother Roger Allerton Jr., and his brother in-law Jack M. Derby.

He is survived by one son, W. David (Mary Anne) Allerton of Mendon; grandchildren Lisa Fauber of Rochester and Brian (Kristina) Allerton of Henrietta; step-grandchild Katie Shanken of Rochester; and great grandchildren Heather and Sterling Fauber; and Isla and Violet Allerton; and dear friend Julie Case.

Bill was married to Jane for 67 years and during that time enjoyed many trips to Europe and across the United States. He was employed at the Seneca Army Depot as an Explosives Operator Foreman, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he was employed as Court Attendant for 12 years at the Yate's County Sheriff's Office. In 1952 he joined the Penn Yan United Methodist Church and was very active on many committees. He also served as an usher and was a Trustee for the church. Bill was also a member of the local NARFE Chapter 1620 and a volunteer driver for Meals-On-Wheels. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as watching the METS on TV.

A private burial will be held at the Newark Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to either the Penn Yan Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 166 St., Penn Yan NY, 14527 or the Alzheimer's Association, in memory of Jane Allerton, 200 Meridian Centre Blvd, Suite 110, Rochester, NY, 14618.
