Virginia W. Yost

Age 81, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away July 11, 2024 at Keuka Comfort Care Home.

She was born in Lewes, DE, the daughter of Edmund and Mabel Wellinghoff. She grew up in Elmira, NY, graduating from Elmira Free Academy and studied Elementary Education at Elmira College. She worked for Corning Community College and the Corning-Painted Post School District.

Ginny was a member of the Lakeside Country Club and an active member of many community activities at Keuka College, including Friends of the Lightner Library, Keuka College Book Sale, Community Advisory Board, and Community Luncheon Series. She was also a member of the What-So-Ever Club and a leader in the Girl Scouts of America in Painted Post.

She is survived by her loving husband and partner of 39 years, Thomas Yost; children Sally (Rick) Sherman, Doug (Susan) McLaud, and Andy (Cali) Yost; grandchildren, Will, Chip, and Ned Sherman, David and Allie McLaud, and Emma and Maddie Yost. She was predeceased by her parents, and first husband, David Miller McLaud. 

The family invites friends and relatives to the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main Street, on Friday, August 16, from 7-9pm. A private memorial service will be held at Garrett Memorial Chapel in Penn Yan; and interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ginny's honor be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home or The Friends of The Lightner Library at Keuka College.
