Virginia J. Dunning
96 years young of Dresden, NY passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on December 30, 2023. Virginia was born on July 25, 1927, the daughter of Clinton and Anna (Kruger) Sisson.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 40 years Robert R. Dunning in 1990, 15 siblings including her twin sister Betty Chambers, and one great-grand angel Harper Daggett. She will be forever loved and remembered by her five children, Robert Dunning (Chris Christensen), Billy (Lori) Dunning, Michael (Kathy) Dunning, Luanne Cross (Jef Veteto), and Betty (Daryl) Daggett; brother Thomas (Rosemary) Sisson; sister-in-law Alice Sisson; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews, and her Dresden United Methodist Church family.
Virginia's love for music started at a very young age. She played guitar and loved to sing and dance. She often would go square dancing with her sisters. Virginia adored her large family and loved spending time with them. She worked as a CNA at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital and in many area vineyards where she met her best friend and Bingo Buddy Kimmy LaBarr. Virginia loved to be outdoors working in her beautiful flower beds and garden. Virginia was an avid fisherman, turkey hunter, and deer hunter, harvesting her last deer at the age of 95. She passed on her passion for this to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many local youth hunters. Virginia's kitchen was always open to her family and friends, and her baking skills were unmatched. Her famous chocolate chip cookies and cry babies were favorites by all who knew her. Virginia's peanut brittle was legendary. She loved to bake pies with the fruits she grew, and to can the vegetables from her garden. Virginia was always up for an intense game of skat or Bingo. Never one to sit still, even while watching Wheel of Fortune she would be found knitting her famous wash cloths.
