Robert A. Hall

Age 60, of Penn Yan, passed away July 13, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital after a brief illness.

Robert is survived by his brother Christopher Hall (Julie); niece Tessa Hall; nephew, Steven Hall; and a special niece, Sarah Hall.

He is predeceased by his mother, Bonnie Hall (Brown) and his father, Rodney Hall.

He enjoyed farming, friends, racing and Grit TV.

Robert was born in Penn Yan April 22, 1963 and was a lifelong resident of Penn Yan. Robert was a farmer his whole life, starting at the age of 3, helping his father. His mother always said Robert went into the barn at 3 and never came out. Robert worked for or helped many farmers in his life, besides his father, including Ed Hansen, Jim Henderson, Lilyea Farms, Townridge Farms and spent many years with Klaas Martens.

Klaas said upon learning of Robert's passing that Robert's greatest skill and legacy was his ability to teach young farmers the proper way to run and fix equipment and how to farm and make right decisions that needed to be made.

Robert will also be remembered as a Gentle Giant by his friends and by the nicknames, "Hoss" when he was younger, and "BIG R", as he grew older. Robert's sense of humor could always make a friend smile and many good times are remembered when BIG R was around. He was also known to help people in any way he could. Friends say their children loved hanging around The Gentle Giant, with many of them looking at him as their "Fun Uncle". He will be sorely missed by his many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Seneca Lake Duck Hunter’s Club, 2188 NY-14, Penn Yan on Sunday, August 27 from 1pm-4pm. 

Robert requested memorial contributions be made to Himrod Volunteer Fire Department, 3530 Himrod Road, Himrod, NY 14842. Robert said, "If they send flowers when I die, they never knew me to begin with".
