Mary-Ruth Sorensen

Age 88, of Penn Yan, NY and formerly of Ithaca, NY, passed away peacefully January 21, 2021 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital of Penn Yan NY.

Mary-Ruth was born in Penn Yan, NY on July 24, 1932, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Smalley) Weeks.

Mary-Ruth graduated from Dundee Central School in 1950.  She worked as an infant child care provider at the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Child Care Center in Willard NY. 

Mary-Ruth was a devout Christian and active in her faith.  She enjoyed volunteering her time at the Interlaken Food Pantry and being active in her church and with her family.  

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years John Sorensen, and son Harry Sorensen.

She is survived by three children, Constance R. (James) Fraboni of Riverview, FL, John E. Sorensen (Martha Towner) of Fisher, NY; Kristina (David) Wight, Ithaca, NY; daughter-in-law Ann Rossignol of Sanford, ME; eight grandchildren, Christopher Kalina, Loreena Fraboni Batouche, Jordan Wight, Nicholas Wight, Julia Wight, Joanna Sorensen, Jennifer Meyers, and Johnna Sorensen.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.  Those wishing to remember may consider a donation in her memory to Meals on Wheels of Ithaca, 2422 N. Triphammer Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 (online at www.foodnet.org) or a Food Pantry of your choice.
