Marjorie L. Swarthout

Marjory L. Swarthout, 67, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away on November 24, 2023 at Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan. 

She was born on January 4, 1956, in Penn Yan, NY, to Courtney and Vera Swartout.  Marjory was a beloved sister to Pam Swarthout Couture and husband Ray, Marilyn Swarthout Little and husband Gil, Paul Swarthout and wife Bonnie and Edward Swarthout.  She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews, and numerous friends from around the world. 

Marjory was known for her friendly and outgoing nature.  She had an adventurous spirit and made numerous friends wherever she traveled.  Her love of music, family, and friends were a big part of her life.   Marjorie’s love of God was a driving force throughout her life. 

Marjory received her elementary through high school education in Penn Yan.  She had the privilege of attending numerous universities from around the world.  Her proudest achievement was attending Oxford University.  Marjory earned her doctorate in counseling psychology from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Marjory served as a Chaplin for the Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.  She also had a successful career as a hospital and military chaplain, and most recently worked as a psychologist.

Visitation and funeral will be held at the Second Milo Baptist Church, Penn Yan on Wednesday (Nov. 29th).  Visitation from 10:30-11:45am and funeral service at 12:00pm.  Burial will take place directly after the funeral at the Second Milo Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church fellowship hall.
