Margaret E. Rogers

January 24, 1927 — January 13, 2021

Margaret E. Rogers Age 93, of Penn Yan, went home to the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial celebration will be held at the United Methodist Church in Penn Yan later in the year. Margaret was born in Penn Yan on January 24, 1927. She was the youngest of 7 children, to Anna (Travis) and Clarence Bailey. She married Ralph George Rogers on September 21, 1946. Margaret had been a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Penn Yan for 79 years, where she sang in the choir, faithfully attended Bible Study, and volunteered her time on many occasions to the charitable work of the church. She worked part-time as a court attendant in the Yates County Court, and in one of the last remaining shoe stores in Penn Yan. Her Christmas Eve/birthday celebrations for Ralph, and the summer pool parties were annual family highlights - ever the tireless hostess, welcoming all. Margaret also had a green thumb. Her gardening talent was not only on display at 93 Ritchey Blvd., but every spring and summer at 60 Walnut Hill, there were flowers in bloom in her small gardening plot, making it easy to tell which apartment was hers. Margaret watered and cared for numerous flower urns throughout Lakeside Cemetery; other families probably never knew how their flowers and plants had been maintained so well.Margy, as most knew her, had an infinity for cardinals and a male and female visited Margy at the feeder in her final days. Margy was a kind and loving mother-in-law and dedicated friend to many, she will be missed. Margaret is predeceased by the love of her life, Ralph G. Rogers; her sisters Laurie Klein, Mildred Dennison, Alice Jacobs, Annabelle Zornow, and her brothers, Paul and Jack Bailey. She is survived by her three children, Lon (Jil Swarthout) Rogers of Lyons, NY; Jocelyn (Michael) Falvey of Penn Yan, NY; and Ralph (Valerie) Rogers of Chesapeake, VA; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Margaret requested donations be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home; or the Memorial Gifts Committee ℅ Penn Yan United Methodist Church, or The Living Well in Penn Yan. Arrangements entrusted to Weldon Funeral Home, Inc. (WeldonFuneralHome.com)
