Kathy Jean Grimes
Age 65, of Pittsford, NY and formerly of Penn Yan, passed away February 26, 2021 in Newton, NC.
The family will receive friends at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan, NY, on Saturday (March 6) from 4pm-6pm. A private mass for family and close friends will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Penn Yan and laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery.
Kathy was born on March 16, 1955 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, the second oldest of five children of Rex and Joan Grimes. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother Timothy Grimes. She is survived by her children Matt (Faith) Race of North Carolina, Aaron (Christina) Race of North Carolina, Brandon (April) Race of Kentucky, and Courtney Yetter (Brady Poggendorf) of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, Braden, Matthew, Harry, Lakken, Cameron, Hunter, Tayler, Josh, Erin, Abby, Jack; 4 sisters and brothers, Lorraine Riley of Canada, Susan Freestone of Arizona, Anthony (Lisa) Grimes of Arizona, and Bradley Grimes of Illinois; and special aunt, Judy Beck of Canada.
Kathy dedicated her life to her four children, family, and to her work. She started her healthcare career at the age of 19 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, and for the last decade worked as a Nursing Home Administrator and professional consultant. She specialized in quality and committed many hours as a Master Examiner, traveling the world for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. She was a member of the National Quality Forum and often selected to speak annually at conferences. She was a member of the American Health Care Assoc., a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Executive Director of Senior Living Operations at Thompson Health, and Director of Public Relations and Volunteers at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.
Kathy was a woman of faith, and active member of the Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader, writer, and musician who blessed us all with her angelic voice. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, niece, and friend who loved her family dearly.
