Joyce Hall

August 12, 1943 — April 24, 2023

Joyce Kathleen Hall

Age 79, formerly of Penn Yan, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, with her three loving children by her side.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Second Milo Baptist Church, on Saturday July 22 at 1:00pm; followed by interment and a reception.

Joy was born August 12, 1943 in Warren, Ohio to Lyle and Jean Hungerford. She was a 1961 graduate of Penn Yan Academy and a 1962 graduate of Rochester Business Institute. Joy married Fred Hall on July 20,1963 in Penn Yan, NY.

Joy enjoyed her work as a medical transcriptionist working in Penn Yan, Canandaigua, and Geneva throughout her career. She retired in August of 2015 from Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, NY.

Joy was an active member of the Second Milo Baptist church for the majority of her adult life. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and serving as the church secretary. Her children have fond memories of their mother passionately singing hymns off key, stating that God didn’t care about how well you sang, just that you sang to Him.

Joy had a deep appreciation for birds, especially hummingbirds. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed her many adventures with her grandchildren over the years. Joy was also an avid reader of murder mysteries and fantasy novels. She will be remembered by all for her sweet and kind nature, as well as her playful sense of humor. She fought bravely through many illnesses, despite her quiet demeanor, until a short battle with cancer took her from us.

Joy leaves behind many family and friends that love and miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fred Hall; her children Clint (Mary) Hall of Goldsboro, NC, Shari (John) Schuck of Bergen, NY, and Mark (Valerie) Hall of Huron, OH; her grandchildren, Elora (Dylan) Sparks, Kyra Hall, Alexandria Schuck, Brandon Schuck, Autumn Hall, and Gage Hall; her sister Debra Fox of Dundee, NY, sister-in-law Deloris Hungerford of FL, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Lyle and Jean Hungerford, and her brother Glenn Hungerford.

A private memorial service will be held in Bergen, NY on Saturday, April 29. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of Yates County (YatesHumane.org) or to Second Milo Baptist Church, 1800-1978 Co. Rte. 30, Penn Yan, NY 14527 .
