George M. Barnes 

Age 88, a lifelong resident of Penn Yan, passed away at home on February 18, 2025. George was born in Penn Yan on June 4, 1936, the son of the late George D. Barnes and Ann (Powers) Barnes.

He was the Publisher for The Chronicle-Express newspaper in Penn Yan for over 50 years.

He married the love of his life, Beverley Hefferon, at St. Stephen’s Church in Geneva on September 26, 1959, and shared 64 years together. Together, George and Beverley raised 10 children. He is survived by his children, Mary (Tom) Blind, Amy (Neal) Braman, Patty (Billy) Maher, Joan (Mark) Perry, Paul (Jodie) Barnes, Sharon (Doug) Reagan, Lolly (Glenn) Green, Matthew Barnes and Megan (Clint) Condron; grandchildren, Shane Blind (Natalie), Jessica Schutz (Matt), Colin Blind (Amy), Dr. Eliza Barnes (Jon), Patrick Barnes (Sabrina), Sean Braman (Morgan), Amanda Brady (Chad), Ashtin Runions (Russell), Bennigan Maher, Braedy Eddington (Billy), Madison Nolan (Chris), Nick DiDuro (Madison), Alex DiDuro, Erica DiDuro (Mike), Monica DiDuro, Olivia DiDuro, Margot Perry (Ben), Dr. Alexis Barnes (Mitch), Ryan Barnes (Daniel), Riley Kuver, Mason Kuver, Madelyn Kuver, Marra Choffin, Luke Choffin, Will Condron, and Leah Condron; great-grandchildren, Leah, Ava, Rayna, Evelyn , Charlotte, Gatlin, Barrett, Cade, Vada, Ruby and Jack. His two sisters-in-law, Mimi Cherniske and Teal Hefferon, and two brothers-in-law, Mike Hefferon and Patrick Hefferon (Laura).

George is predeceased by his wife, Beverley, and their son, Martin, both who passed away in 2024. In addition, he was predeceased by his three sisters, Alice, Katherine and Joanne, son-in-law Tim Kuver, and his great-grandson, Weston Runions.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (February 24) at 1 pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 312 Liberty Street, Penn Yan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to St. Michael’s Church, 210 Keuka Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
