Flora Nielsen

Flora Leona Scott Nielsen, age 102, of Penn Yan, passed away February 1, 2023 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 5, 1920 in Benton, NY to Roy and Bertha Steger Scott.

She married Elmer Nielsen on January 20, 1941.

She worked with Dr. William Rhudy; was a teacher's aide at Penn Yan Elementary School and worked many years at Lown's Department Store and Lown's House of Shoppes in Penn Yan, NY.  She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Flora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and friend; who will be missed by all. At the age of 102 she continued to live independently in her own home.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Lori Nickoloff, will be held on Saturday February 11, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St. Penn Yan, NY.  An hour prior to the service 10am to 11am will be calling hours also held at the church. A luncheon will be provided after the service.

Flora is survived by her son David (Charlene) Nielsen; daughter Rita (Robert) Rasmussen; grandchildren, Julie Rasmussen (Jody Jaynes); Jamie Rasmussen; Jeff (Katie) Nielsen; honorary grandchild Jeffrey Rasmussen; great-grandchildren, Parker and Abigail Rasmussen; Dax and Lucy Nielsen; sisters-in-law, Doris (Clem) Nielsen and Edith (Blondie) Snyder; nephew Roy Voak; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer and sister, Mary Voak.
