Earl D. Mortensen, Sr.

Age 87, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on June 14, 2023.

He was formerly of Dundee and Penn Yan, NY.  He was born on May 15, 1936 in Penn Yan, NY to Karl and Velda Mortensen. Earl graduated from Penn Yan Academy and then enlisted in the US Army where he served honorably.

After completing his service, Earl returned home and worked as a Sheriff Deputy for Yates County before serving as the Chief of Police for the Dundee Police Department. Earl was a life member of the Dundee Masonic Lodge #123 and a member of the Sarasota American Legion.

Earl is survived by his wife Sarah; seven children including sons Earl Thomas, Brian, Earl Duane, and Christian Eric; daughters Dorothy, Cheri, and Heather; brother Karl; sisters Kay and Ruthie; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Aaron and sister Barb.

Friends may pay their respects at the Weldon Funeral Home located at 102 E. Main Street in Penn Yan on Friday July 14 from 4pm-6pm followed by a Masonic service and funeral at 6:00pm. The committal service along with military honors will be held on Saturday July 15 at Glen View Cemetery in Pulteney, NY.
