Devereaux J. Russell
Age 71, of Penn Yan, was called Home on December 20, 2023.
The family will receive friends at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 60 Cornelia St., in Dresden on Thursday (December 28th) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held at the church on Friday (December 29th) at 1:00pm. She will be interred with her husband at Sampson Veterans Cemetery in the spring at a time determined by the family.
Devie was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her compassionate nature touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She brought joy and warmth to every occasion and will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard J. Russell in 2019, and brother Karl Jaynes.
Devie leaves behind a legacy of love through her children Kerry (Chuck) Hoffman, Tom (Sara) Eskildsen, Kate (Matt) Nelson, and Kevin (Chrissie) Russell; grandchildren Madeline Hoffman, Alexa Hoffman, Jacob Eskildsen, Stephan Nelson, Karla Nelson, Samantha (Calvin) Shanks, and Skyler Russell (Bryan Gillette); one great-grandchild, Walker Gillette; brothers Charles Jaynes and Rev. Ronald (Colleen) Jaynes; and sister Patricia Heckman.
Devie dedicated over 25 years of her life working at Penn Yan Academy as a Library Clerk until her retirement in 2007. During her time there, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of both students and colleagues with her unwavering dedication to knowledge and learning.
She found solace and strength in her faith as a long-standing member of the Dresden and Canandaigua United Methodist Churches. Her spiritual devotion was evident in her involvement in various book clubs, Bible study groups, and choir activities. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and brought her closer to her community.
Devie and her late husband Richard found true joy in their remote cottage on Aylen Lake in Canada. Surrounded by the tranquility of nature, they created countless cherished memories on the water fishing and spending time with family and friends. It was here that they found peace and connected with the beauty of the world around them.
In addition to her extensive network of friends, Devie held a special place in the hearts of her family, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Her love was unwavering, and she provided comfort, support, and guidance to those she held dear.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Devereaux may be made to Keuka Comfort Care, PO Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or the Dresden United Methodist Church.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Weldon Funeral Home, Penn Yan for their compassionate assistance during this difficult time.
