David Durkee
Age 60, of Branchport, NY, passed away July 17, 2022.
David grew up and lived in Penn Yan and Branchport most of his life. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1980 and left for Alaska the day after graduating, to start new adventures in his life. He was a lifelong avid outdoors man, who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a profound love for Keuka Lake.
His jobs included teacher, carpenter, and licensed fishing and hunting guide. Many knew him as Captain Dave Durkee. Dave had a larger-than-life personality, with even a bigger heart. His charm and sense of humor made everyone he met feel like a dear friend and was always willing to give a helping hand.
David was predeceased by his parents, A. David Durkee and Florence Durkee; and a sister, Alicia Durkee.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Heather Durkee; daughter Sarah (Gabriel) Pena of Geneva; “brother” (in-law), Ben Edenfield of Saranac Lake, NY, nephews, Colin and Patrick Edenfield; best-friend Tim Bob Hopkins; and many cousins and dear very friends.
The family will receive friends at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan on Tuesday (July 26) from 4pm-7pm. At David’s request, there will be a party at the Valley Inn at a later date. Please consider a donation to a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
