David Lee Allison

April 6, 1940 — July 31, 2023

DAVID LEE ALLISON, PENN YAN- David, 83, died from complications from surgery at Geneva General Hospital ICU on July 31, 2023.

He was born the youngest of eight children in Millington, Maryland on April 6, 1940, to Walter and Stella (Kidney) Allison.  His family moved to Penn Yan where both parents died in the 1950’s.  His eldest sister, Norma (Allison) Banach and husband, John Banach took him in at the age of 17 until he joined the Marines in Sept. 1957.  David met his young bride-to-be, Jean LeGro, while in high school at Penn Yan Academy and they married in August 1959.  He was honorably discharged from the Marines in Sept. 1960 and within nine months their first child, Patrick, was born.  Jean would give birth to 5 more children before the decade of the 60’s was spent.  David earned a living as a meat cutter for several years, then as a car salesman (he could sell a car to a tree!), but his first love was music.  Maybe you remember the Allison Brothers’ Band if you’ve been around long enough, who performed locally during the 50’s and 60’s.  David’s interests were American history, reading, photography, country music, and cars.  He received Jesus as his savior in the mid-70’s while separated from his wife and family and attended various churches.  His life had many ups and downs with mental health struggles, alcoholism, and estrangement from his wife and children and, eventually his grandchildren.  His faith wavered, but his Savior never did, and he was welcomed with great fanfare into heaven when he left his mortal body behind.

He will be interred at the Bath National Cemetery in Bath, NY on August 18, 2023, at 11am.  A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

David is survived by his ex-wife, Jean LeGro, five of his children, Patrick (Tonette) Allison, Johnna D (James) Ingram, Scott Allison, Diane Beyersdorfer, and Eric Allison, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his siblings, Harry Allison, Ronald Allison, Norma Banach, Vernon Allison, Walter Allison, June Irene Allison, and Kenneth Allison, a daughter, Kimberly Allison, his brother-in-law, John Banach, nephew, Keith Allison, and his parents, Walter, and Stella (Kidney) Allison.
