Daniel C. Woolston
A longtime resident of Penn Yan, NY, unexpectedly passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of 68. Predeceased by his parents, Nancy (Costich) Woolston-Kavanagh, Clare D. Woolston, his father-in-law, Howard Woodruff and his brother, Jeffrey Woolston.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carla (Woodruff) Woolston; son Jonathan (Amanda) Woolston, soon to arrive granddaughter, brothers Tim (Carol) Woolston, Joe Woolston, sister Cate (Eric) Obenauer; mother-in-law Doris Woodruff as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan started in the local restaurant scene in Victor, NY at the Tale of the Whale, where he worked as a dishwasher and soon found his love for cooking. He worked his way up from there learning his craft from other great local chefs, like John Prinzivalli. His career as a local chef spanned over 40 years, and included local favorites, Cheap Charlie’s, Bob and Ruth’s. In 2002 Dan found his ‘happy place’ in the kitchen of Eric’s Office in Canandaigua. Heading up the lunch kitchen, his soups were enjoyed by all and he was affectionately known as the ‘Soup Nazi’. When he wasn’t in the kitchen, he loved spending time walking the Outlet Trail, golfing, cheering on the Bills or watching a Mets game.
The family will receive friends at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan, NY on Tuesday (April 11) from 12:30p – 2:00p followed by a Celebration of Life and a time of remembrance and sharing at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to The Friends of the Outlet Trail or Yates County Humane Society. (WeldonFuneralHome.com)
