Brigitte I. Nielsen
Age 89, of Penn Yan, passed away March 31, 2024.
She was born in Berlin Germany in 1934, the daughter of August and Helene (Pfeiffer) Jachnow. While living in Berlin before the war, she was training to be a dancer in the Berlin Opera. After the war, she left Germany with her new husband, a US Army soldier who was stationed in Berlin during the Allied Occupation. They settled and raised their family in Penn Yan.
She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Her husband, Irving Nielsen, passed away in 2016. She is survived by four children, Michael (Helen) Nielsen of Pembroke Pines, FL, Steven (Tricia) Nielsen of Freeland, WA, Joanne (David) LeClair of Rushville, and Katherine (Kevin) Erskin of Himrod; six grandchildren, Lauren and Joshua Neilsen, Thomas and Joseph Nielsen, David M. LeClair, and Jenna Erskin; also several nieces and nephews.
A gathering to honor Brigitte's life will be held at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St. Penn Yan on Saturday (April 13) from 12pm-1pm; followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm; and burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully received in memory of Brigitte may be directed to the Humane Society of Yates County (YatesHumane.org) or the American Cancer Society (Cancer.org).
