Berlin (Buzz) Hobart, 78, passed away on Sunday morning, January 26, 2020, with family and friends nearby at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan. He passed from complications of older age. Calling hours will be at Weldon Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, from 11am - 1pm and then a short service. A reception will follow beginning at 2pm at the Wagner Restaurant. He was born on June 5, 1941 to Elizabeth (Daggett) and Gerald Hobart, the second of their nine children. He is pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers, Allen and Joe Hobart and his brother-in-laws, Michael Allen and Harry McClain. He attended Penn Yan Academy. Being a machinist was his career. He played slo-pitch softball in Penn Yan; he formed the Yates County Junior Football League; he was a member and officer of the Keuka Lake Renegades and the Yates County Sportsmen’s Association; he collected pennies; he was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings; and a breakfast time fixture at The Wagner. He was the embodiment of “his bark is worse than his bite.” He is survived by his sisters, Linda McClain, Toni Hobart, Mary Hobart, Deborah (Raymond) Crombe, Sharon Allen; his brother, Vincent Hobart; sister-in-law, Melissa Hobart. He also leaves behind his daughter Lori Hobart (Kevin Mays), his son, Craig (Kelly) Hobart, and their mother, Joan Flanigan. There are many nieces, nephews and friends who will also miss him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: American Heart Association or any youth hunting safety program.
