Alice McKernan

Alice A. McKernan

Alice Althea McKernan (née Armstrong), died February 27, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona at age 90.

Alice was born on October 29, 1932 in Penn Yan, the daughter of Stuart and Blanche Armstrong. Alice graduated from Penn Yan Academy (class of 1950), and the University of Rochester School of Nursing. After graduation, Alice moved to Arizona, where she met her husband, Harold. Together, they lived in many interesting places around the country. After Harold’s retirement, they settled in Colorado for a number of years.

Her adventurous spirit led her to travel around the globe. Alice made many trips to China, Tibet, Peru, England, Scotland, and Ireland, and made many friends along the way.  She returned to the desert she loved in early 2000. While in Tucson, she often volunteered at local parks and at the library.

She was always learning new crafts, including pine needle basket weaving. She is survived by her husband, Harold, of 65 years, daughter, Peggy Jobe of Broken Bow, OK, and sons Thomas McKernan of Littleton, CO, and Stuart McKernan of Santa Fe, NM, and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Robert Armstrong of Penn Yan, and sister, Sally Welker of Rush, NY.
