Alberta Monroe Henries
Age 87, of Penn Yan, passed away April 18, 2021 at Penn Yan Manor.
Alberta was born in Geneva, NY, the daughter of the late Burton B. Monroe Sr. and Helen Monroe. She was also predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Daniel H. Henries, Sr. in 2017 and their infant daughter, Shari Lee Henries; and two brothers, James Monroe and Burton Monroe, Jr and grandson, Matthew Henries.
She is survived by her children, Daniel (Cindy) Henries Jr., Karen (Denis) Gilmartin, and John (Tracey) Henries, all of Penn Yan; sister Gertrude (John) Pietskowski of Chicopee, MA; sisters-in-law, Poly and Mary Monroe; 8 grandchildren, Craig (Christine) Henries, Alicia Hartman, William Hartman, Jr., Joshua (Katherine) Gilmartin, Justin (Margaret) Gilmartin, Jordan (Sharie) Gilmartin, Jeremey (Becky) Henries, Jonathan Leek; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan on Thursday (April 22) from 6pm-8pm. (A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30pm.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church; followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
Alberta was a lifelong resident of Penn Yan and a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a Charter Member of the Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a volunteer at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Her favorite job was a Foster Grandmother at Head Start in Penn Yan.
Memorial donations in her memory may be to the Humane Society of Yates County (YatesHumane.org) or Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org)
