Ellen Virginia Buckley, age 84, passed away at The Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan on Thursday, February 8, 2018. Friends may call on Monday (February 12, 2018) from 10 to 11 a.m. at Saint Michael’s Church in Penn Yan. Her Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Ellen was born on July 3, 1933 in West Union, New York, the daughter of the late, Agnes (Teater) and Freeman McAllister. In addition to her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Robert F. Buckley and her brothers Jim McAllister and Larry (Lois) McAllister. Ellen graduated from Painted Post High School in 1951 and worked many years as a nursing assistant at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home and then in the cafeteria at the Penn Yan Middle School before retiring. She spent many years raising her beloved Morgan horses and participating in carriage driving competitions and enjoyed spending time quilting as a member of the Lake-to-Lake Quilting Guild. She loved to read and found joy in visiting with family, friends, and neighbors and spending time with her sisters and daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (McAllister) Collins of Canandaigua, NY and son, Steven (Kate) McAllister of Cameron, NY; sisters, Erma (Dale) Coleman, Elaine (Jim) Pierri, Elizabeth (Wayne) Thompson, and brother Michael McAllister, sister-in-law Barb Thompson; her grandchildren, Angie (Ted) Cox, Christopher and Marisa Collins, JoEllen (Brian) Hill, and Courtney Manuszak (Matthew Sehm); great-grandchildren, Blaise and Alexandra Cox, Anna and Susan Hill, and John Sehm and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Ellen’s memory to The Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 State Route 14A, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to Saint Michael's School, 214 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
